In the classroom, I try to create an atmosphere where everyone can feel comfortable sharing their writing and opinions while at the same time challenging them to get out of their comfort zone in considering alternative viewpoints. I want the students to make a connection from their lives to the world around them through in-class discussion that can better inform their writing.
A faculty position is so much more than just the teaching and I have taken up those aspects whole-heartedly as well. In addition to serving on departmental committees, I have represented the College of Communication and Fine Arts on a pair of university-wide committees and served as the CFA’s at-large representative to the University Senate. I have also been the faculty adviser to the Bradley chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. I would welcome the opportunity to take on similar roles, in addition to working closely with the students during advising.
